Clear roles, truthful listings, private data controls and a route for complaints are part of using the marketplace safely.
What MyKainga is
MyKainga is a New Zealand online marketplace operated by Mahuta Group Ltd. Independent hosts advertise accommodation and rentable spaces. MyKainga provides listing, messaging, booking and payment-facilitation technology; it does not own, inspect or manage a listed space unless a listing expressly says otherwise.
Host responsibilities
Hosts must have authority to offer the space, say whether they are acting in trade, choose the correct legal accommodation category, keep listing facts and prices accurate, and comply with tenancy, council, building, fire, health and safety, insurance and tax obligations that apply to their space.
Review and reporting
New and materially changed listings are reviewed before publication. Review is a platform moderation step, not a council inspection, property-management service or legal certification. Users can report a listing or contact Support about safety, privacy, fraud, discrimination or inaccurate information.
Bookings and payments
A request is not a confirmed booking. Online payment is available only where the listing and host payment account are enabled. Prices and availability are recalculated on the server. MyKainga does not collect residential tenancy bonds through checkout and does not add a tenant letting fee to a Residential Tenancies Act tenancy.
Rights and complaints
Nothing on MyKainga removes rights that cannot lawfully be excluded under New Zealand law. Start with Support for a platform complaint. Depending on the issue, you may also contact Tenancy Services, the Commerce Commission, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner, Inland Revenue, DIA or another appropriate regulator.
Important
A one-week minimum stay does not by itself decide whether an arrangement is a residential tenancy, short-stay accommodation, boarding arrangement, flatmate arrangement or commercial licence. The real facts and applicable law control.
